You won't believe THIS! is a game that was developed while participating in 2017's Global Game Jam (GGJ), a worldwide event in which games are made in up to 48 hours. The attendees are given a theme and they have total freedom to do whatever game they want within 48 hours.
The theme of the GGJ17 was "Waves". This game works with the concept of "waves of lies" that are spread through the Internet, raising awareness to the responsibility each user has when using it. Nowadays it's very common for people to not even bother reading more than headlines before they start sharing them, no matter how absurd those headlines might appear.
In the game, players take on the role of G.O.S.S.I.P., a super computer that once worked for the good guys, but has now been corrupted and relishes in monitoring how the lies that it has created are being spread. Thematically, G.O.S.S.I.P. can see people around the world as they send instant messages to one another with the contents of the lie that is currently being spread.
The game's mechanics consist of using active nodes to start spreading a lie. Successful sharing will activate other nodes that will in turn be used to do the same thing. The goal of each level is to activate all the mainstream media outlets, represented by the green hexagons. Additionally, players may take on the additional challenge of targeting celebrities with the hoax, represented by stars. This is entirely optional, but makes the level a little harder, seeing that celebrities are usually heavily guarded and there's a limit to how many times each active node can spread a lie before their social feed labels them as undesirable spammers.
